Tyler Lawrence was fatally shot on Sunday in a shooting in Mattapan, Boston.

The emergency call operator answered a call just after 11:30 am about a person on Babson Street that was shot.

Officers were dispatched immediately to the intersection of Babson and Fremont streets to activate ShotSpotter.

They found the victim at the end of a driveway outside an apartment complex on Babson Street close to Fremont.

However, it was too late; Tyler Lawrence was no more. According to Boston EMS, Lawrence had been shot multiple times.

Many government representatives – Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Suffolk County District attorney Kevin Hayden, and Deputy Supt. Felipe Colon – joined the Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox on the scene.

The attorney Hayden said he watched football with his 13-year-old son after leaving the crime scene.

He said the glaring tragedy of the truth is that Tyler Lawrence’s family would never be able to do it.

Hayden added that the loss is immeasurable for the Lawrence family and the city.

Deputy Supt. Felipe Colon said that investigators believe Tyler Lawrence was targeted.

“This was not a random incident,” he added while noting a team of investigators on the site being led by the DA’s office and homicide division.

However, the investigators have yet to conclude the victim’s relation to the House where his body was discovered.

Moreover, a neighbor claimed five gunshots rang out before they heard Police rushing to the crime scene.

While acknowledging that people often misidentify gunshot sounds as fireworks, the witness added that the sound was too sharp and precise, so they knew it was gunshots.

Another person who wanted to be anonymous said it was tragic to see.

The Boston Police requested help from the public in the investigation. They described the incident as another “senseless act of violence.”
