Jean-Luc Perignon is a British Columbia person charged with stabbing his wife. However, recently, he has been acquitted of his actions.

Mr. Perignon was acquitted after an argument that his actions were not voluntary as he was “effectively asleep” at the time.

The incident occurred in 2017 when Jean-Luc Perignon, a British Columbia native, stabbed his wife on her back, heavily wounding her.

Luckily, the victim survived the stabbing, as her husband immediately called 911, and the paramedics could take her to the hospital on time.

Jean-Luc Perignon, BC Man Acquitted Of Stabbing Wife

Jean-Luc Perignon is recently acquitted of stabbing his wife in British Columbia.

After a lengthy investigation, the BC Supreme Court justice concluded that the accused lacked any motive for the stabbing.

Supreme Court Justice Warren Milman noted in his ruling that such a defense rarely succeeds.

The statement concluded that Perignon was in a state of severely impaired “automatism.”

Milman added that the courts are justifiably reluctant to acquit Jean-Luc on the grounds of automatism due to concerns about faking such conditions.

However, he also focused on maintaining respect for the administration of justice.

That’s why six years after the unfortunate incident, the husband of the stabbed woman is finally free of his charges.

The court ruling, in this case, has been quite strange; not many cases have been concluded similarly.

Perignon, now in his 60s, did not deny that he stabbed his then-wife but claimed that he was in a state of automation.

Mr. Perignon had consumed a cocktail of alcohol and prescription drugs before the assault.

Jean-Luc Perignon Stabbed Wife In 2017

Jean-Luc Perignon from Gibsons, British Columbia, stabbed his wife, Debra, in 2017.

The couple met in 1990 and had three daughters, Rochelle, Kaitlin, and Olivia.

They moved from Montreal to the Sunshine Coast area of British Columbia in 2006 and married in 2007.

The incident occurred on Easter weekend in April 2017, when Jean-Luc went to his home office after an Easter Monday family dinner.

Meanwhile, Debra and one of the daughters were watching a movie in the living room.

After the movie, Debra sent the daughter to bed and went to the front door to let their dog out before going to bed.

She heard her husband’s footsteps on the stairs behind her, felt a “thump” in her back, and realized she had been stabbed.

The victim reached her hand to her back to pull the knife off, cutting her thumb in the process.

When she screamed for help, another daughter and her partner came to her aid.

Perignon testified that he had chronic problems with insomnia, and when he retired to his home office, he took several medications.

He remembered taking off his shoes and socks while he felt pain in his back.

The following memory was seeing his wife bloodied on the floor, screaming in pain.

The accused was charged with the aggravated assault of his wife in the family’s home in Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast.

Perignon was born in France, moved to Canada at a young age, and worked as an IT consultant.

The couple has already separated, probably because of the stabbing incident, as the wife feared for her safety from the man who stabbed her.
